Over the semester, my peer review skills have somewhat improved in certain respects. With my first peer review, I was unsure of what to make comments on as a whole, but this time I was better prepared to be more specific in my comments. I will say that the day of peer review this time around, my brain was already exhausted from the day, so I was unable to make my comments as best as they could have been. I learned that I can suggest edits whether major or minor on someone else’s work, something I was likely afraid of doing during the first peer review. I was also less nervous during this peer review session because I was used to it now, where in the past I would always struggle with the thought of other people reading my work. In terms of my peer’s draft, I found that we have very similar views on the topic, making it far easier to read than perhaps someone with an opposing view. The strongest component of their work was their personal statements and anecdotes. This is not to say that they did not have strong textual evidence, because they did, but their stories and statements regarding empathy were very well-written. This aspect kept the reader engaged throughout the work, another thing I struggle with in peer review in general, though this time, the focus came easily to me.
