Although this was not my first experience with peer review in college, I still found the experience different from when I participated in it elsewhere. This experience felt more personal, though not in a negative way. Specific notes I received were centered around utilizing quotes to support my view, since I had not been including them into my argument. Another factor was weaving together my viewpoint into the summaries and views of the two essays. Overall, hearing more about my opinion on social media needs to be incorporated more frequently, instead of just in one of the paragraphs. Reading a peers’ work made me think about a different perspective from what I was used to writing, and I noticed a few strong points that I considered/am still considering putting into my own essay.
The biggest challenge I faced during this peer review was finding a good way to word my comments. There were often points where I had thoughts about a particular sentence or section but I could not quite articulate what I wanted to say properly. For next time, I will be more prepared in what to look for in another’s work by reviewing the peer review sheet a few times beforehand, since it was still new to me this time. Overall it was a pleasant experience which I found very helpful, and I hope to be more confident in my work going into this since I was fairly nervous this time.
